Cafe Melba – a great place for mums gathering while kids play

Happy 2015!

We found a great gathering place to start a brand new year!

When my Secondary school friend watsapp the 4 of us on where would be a good place for a long overdue meet up with kids tag along, my first thoughts went to Cool de Sac, Rochester Playhouse, and Food for Thought. However, I had brought the kids to these places several times and would love to try out a new place, well recommended by some bloggers, called Cafe Melba. And so we went to Cafe Melba on the first morning of 2015 and upon setting foot in this cafe, this quickly become a top mums gathering place on my kids-friendly restaurant list.

Cafe Melba

Cafe Melba is tucked inside Goodman Arts Centre on Goodman Road among many rich and awesomely huge bungalows. We took a wrong turn and were pleasantly surprised to see many glamorous houses on Wilkinson Road! I never knew, beside Bukit Timah, there is also another rich man’s lane in the eastern side of Singapore.

Anyway, back to Cafe Melba.

Cafe Melba do not accept reservations on weekends and public holidays. We were lucky to arrive 5 minutes earlier than a long queue of families behind us and hence could secure an outdoor long table for the 14 of us.

The best part of this cafe is the bouncy castle, a big grass field for soccer play, and a stone pit all for the kids to run, bounce and play while parents dine and chat. We were able to see exactly where the kids were, and with minimum supervision, we could chat to our heart’s content.

If your child prefers some quiet times, Cafe Melba has colouring sheets and colour pencils for them too. Or bring your own crafts for older kids like XX.

XX being usually the eldest child in gatherings, brought her own cross stitch to sew.

As for the food, we ordered a Full Melba Cooked Breakfast (S$25) and an Omelette with Toast (S$15). The prices are standard cafe prices. For Kel who much prefers Kopitiam style brekkie, this western style breakfast is rather pricey. Nevertheless, for the company we had and kids free play for the 3.5 hours we were there, I would not mind coming here again.

There are some promotions like the Wednesday Ladies Night from 6pm onwards. Do check it out if you are contemplating some quieter and tranquil chill out sessions with cosy setting. Cafe Melba has indoor air-conditioned seating as well.

This cafe is the latest addition to my list of mums and kids gathering place. Certainly highly recommended for playdates!

    1. Surprisingly, these few days we have very cool weather, just like last year before CNY, cold winds like Autumn lol! This place is very unique, being tucked away among the peaceful rich man’s lane. Let me know how you think of this cafe if you do go 🙂

  1. Looks awesome! I had truffle fries for the first time a few months ago – we went to a new bar for a friends going away party and there was nothing on the menu I could eat (really, why are there tomatoes or mushrooms or meat in every single dish?!?) so I ordered fries. and then I placed another order! LOL. But, glad the kids had plenty of room to enjoy while you got some grown up time!

    1. This is my first time eating truffle fries too! It tastes delicious! We have mushrooms and tomatoes on all the breakfast sets as well. You did a right choice bypass them lol! Happy New Year Kate!
