Cold Storage Kids Run is back again for the 9th consecutive year! To be held as a run event for nearing a decade, it must be really popular! The theme for this year’s run is “Eat Healthy. Get Active.” and aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and family bonding through exercise and a healthy diet.
This year, the race is held on 22 May 2016 on a Sunday at The Meadows, Gardens by the Bay again! We love Gardens by the Bay and think that the location is totally perfect for this event. I still remember when we took part in our first Kids Run last year, we arrived at the break of dawn at Gardens by the Bay, and the refreshing air and beautiful scenery greeted us. Since then, I have been wanting to go back to the same place for a morning jog, but never did get to do it. Hence, we are very glad to have this opportunity once again to be back here for the run.
This time round, both my elder kids will be taking part in 1.6km competitive categories, separately for boys and girls. For my toddler, I will be taking part with him in the same Parent + Kid category as last year. If only they have 2 parents + 1 kid category, it would be good to include the hubby. However, that would open up many combination possibilities in this category and may end up to be a confusing run. Nevermind about the hubby, he shall be there to handle logistics and fetching of kids during the different race timings. However, for special cases of combination like a single parent with more than one kid, the organizers do accept exceptions if you write in for this request. Read here for the FAQ to find out more.
What we love about this run is that there are plenty of fringe activities going around the race village. For example, last year, they had bouncy castle station, games and free milk, healthy drinks and snacks. Even for the race pack collection day, there were games to play too. It will be no different this year with a carnival after the race for family activities, as well as a Kids Run Fun Fest on race pack collection days where your kids can expect games and fun activities too.
There is certainly one category that will suit each of your children. Not forgetting that there is a 3Gen Family Fun Run (1 grandparent + 1 parent + 1 kid) and Fancy Dress Family Fun Run to participate in. For the very first time, the Cold Storage Kids Run will have 2 child celebrities as ambassadors – football protégé Iryan Fandi and running enthusiast Abbie Rose Humphreys. If you do not already know, 10-year-old Iryan is the youngest son of illustrious local football legend Fandi Ahmad and 7-year-old Abbie Rose is the daughter of popular local columnist and author, Neil Humphreys.
