Art Science Museum – Future World

{Not a sponsored post}

We went to the Future World exhibition in Art Science Museum today! This is the second time we have been to this museum. The first time we were there for The Deep, which showcased life deep deep under the ocean.

If you are intending to bring your children, nieces, nephews, or any kids below 12 years old, you will be happy to know that there is a Family Friday promotion where on Fridays, a paying adult can bring up to 4 children with free entry! Plus, today we have many adults and children with us and we even got to enjoy the 1 for 1 free entry too! For the 1 for 1 free entry, simply show that you have “Liked” Art Science Museum facebook page and you get to enjoy this promotion! Both promotions, Family Friday and 1 for 1 entry can be used together 🙂

Alright, now let’s go straight to what we liked about this Future World Exhibit – Where Art Meets Science.

There are 4 themes of art installations – Nature, Town, Park, Space

NATURE

Flutter of Butterflies Beyond Borders

You will see blossoming flowers that go on and on through the four seasons of a year. Spend 5 minutes to look at this virtual environment and you will see butterflies come and go, flowers blossom and fade away. It is beautiful to take pictures here with your kids too.

Book Bank at the Botanic Gardens + Paper Quilling Fun

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” by Marcus Tullius

Imagine bringing your children to the Botanic Gardens and reading books together on the lush greenery coupled with background birds chirping sound, taking in fresh air and enjoying a peaceful bonding moment on a beautiful day.

This is exactly what this book bank initiative is really about – to encourage a love of reading, and what better place than in our own beautiful Gardens.

If you are heading towards the Singapore Botanic Gardens, you should bring along a book that you wish to give away and visit the Book Bank outside the Gardens Shop at Tanglin Gate. Over here, you can drop your book and exchange for a book on the bookshelves to bring home, or simply donate some good books, or pick up one and read at the Gardens. But do remember to return it so that we always have the bookshelves full of books and not depleted to none. This is a meaningful campaign started by The Gardens Shop @ Tanglin Gate to cultivate a love for reading, especially among the little ones who visit the Gardens, as well as to make bonding time with the family more fun and rewarding.

Book Bank at the Gardens

For a start, these books are contributed by The Gardens Shop. We certainly have some good conditioned books that the kids have read and loved and we will be happy to share with others while in exchange, pick up new ones or preloved ones by others. Hopefully, the next time we visit the Gardens, this bookshelf will be so plentiful of books that it requires a bigger corner!

Art Pazzionate

As part of the initiative to kickstart the Book Bank at the Gardens, we were invited along with some parent bloggers to a Paper Quilling session together with our children. Little tables were set up outside the Gardens Shop. It was a perfect location to do crafts with our young ones. I have never known what is Paper Quilling until now. And after posting some of our paper quilling masterpieces on instagram, I realized that I have been missing out such crafts since my school days! Apparently, even my BFF made these 20 years ago!

Basically, Paper Quilling is really an easy craft work but yet it can produce amazing art pieces with endless forms of ideas and creativity. Continue reading “Book Bank at the Botanic Gardens + Paper Quilling Fun”

GE Women Run – the start of my passion for running

You must be wondering if GE Women Run is round the corner. But no. In fact this is an overdued post that I have been meaning to blog about but thought it might be better to write it now to motivate those who have slacked in running or could not find time to exercise haha. Okok, excuses aside. Recently, I have been into run events and it really all started with GE Women Run that motivated me into running, and I would like to encourage more people to start a healthy lifestyle somewhere at some point in time.

Start of 5km

I joined GE Women’s Run 2 years back in 2014. That was my first 5km run and I wasn’t sure back then if I was capable of running 5km. I practised for it with my morning 2km jog after I saw my girl up the school bus. I thought to myself, 5km was basically 2.5 times more than what I usually did and I should finish within 40 minutes at most. It should not be difficult. Indeed, 5km was categorized as a fun run and plus, I had awesome mum blogger friends to run together, I did make it at a leisurely pace!

For a newbie in running, it was important to enjoy the run rather than stressed over the run timing. I was a sportsgirl in my school days playing Netball in numerous inter-school competitions. I was the competitive type who had always wanted to outdo others. However, as age catches up, I learn to listen to my body. These days, I want to enjoy what I do. I was happy that Continue reading “GE Women Run – the start of my passion for running”

February – what goes on in our lives

I can’t believe it is already end of February! What did we exactly do in this month that seemed to fly by in a jiffy?

Birthday Celebrations…

February is full of celebrations with 4 birthdays including my lunar birthday too. Missy 11 is, well, 11 years old this year. She had a simple celebration together with just the 5 of us. No big parties for the first time. She made my day when she asked me to bake her favourite New York Cheesecake and we baked her cake together. We treated the kids to Stephen Chow’s The Mermaid, a comedy, in celebration of her birthday.

One on one date…

I dated Missy 11 one on one a few days after her birthday. I asked her what she would like to do on our date and she replied,”I want to go to Timezone!” We went to the archade at Plaza Singapura and had a fun-filled afternoon. I had not had such a good time playing in the entertainment centre for a good many years. It was very special to go with your own daughter and play together. I did not have to keep watch on other kids. It was easier to go out with one child and we had a good chat over MacDonald’s fries and sundae and there was no distraction. Don’t judge the way I raise my children

I am not in a competition on raising children.

I believe everyone has his or her own way in raising theirs, but there are so many times when I am judged at how I raised up my children that I think this ‘judgement’ deserves a blog post here.

I often received raised eyebrows when people know that I let my baby sleep in a sarong cradle. Some were surprised that I give pacifiers to my babies almost betting that I would have trouble weaning them off it. People judged when they saw that I feed my toddler on the go. Others gave disapproving look when they sighted my kids playing on tablets or smartphones. Many criticized when they see my kids’ overactive behaviour. And this will almost certainly set you off laughing: I let my children use the milk bottle for as long as they like.

You may disapprove some of the ways I deal with my children. But I believe that I am bringing them up well.

Why “no sarong rule”?

What is wrong with children sleeping in a sarong cradle? Some said that it will cause over-dependence on sleeping in one and “spoil” the baby. All my 3 children grew up sleeping in one and up till 3 years of age during nap time. They slept on the bed from 6 months old for night sleep. The sarong cradle is an amazing piece of cloth that once hung onto the sarong cradle metal frame, creates a hugging sensation to the baby who tends to sleep well in it. The rocking motion of sarong cradle is very soothing to the child, mimicking the feeling in mummy’s womb. And from my 3 times experience, my child can sleep anywhere with or without sarong cradle. I do not have problem getting them to sleep on the bed either. So why the insistence of no sarong rule?

Pacifier is better than thumb

When my children were babies and started to suck on their thumbs, my mum gave me a very good advice to use the pacifier. Continue reading “Don’t judge the way I raise my children”
