U Escape @ Plaza Singapura – Escape Room suitable for Family!

I am pretty excited to share about our addiction to Escape Room concept game!

Previously I have read reviews from The Little Mom and Mummy Ed and I was not sure if the kids could handle, but after we went to U Escape at Plaza Singapura during the September holidays, we all got hooked! And 2 days later, we went again, but as we did not book for it, we checked out another Escape Room and we loved that too!

What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is usually designed with a theme, for instance the one that we went is a CASINO room.

The ultimate aim is to break codes and locks to finally unlock the door of the room within a limited time, like 60 min.

You have to move around the room and find clues which will lead to a combination code of a lock or a key to a lock to unlock the next clue and so on.

It requires team work, wit, and creativity.

There are different theme rooms to choose from, ranging from family friendly, to more challenging ones and even Virtual Reality Scary ones. There is music played in the background which adds to the mood of the game.

Number of pax: typically from 2 – 14

How do we play?

There are many versions of Escape Rooms in Singapore.

U Escape, being our first Escape Room experience, is very suitable for kids and family in my opinion. That is from our experience of 2 different Escape Room concept between U Escape and another similar Escape Room provider.

First of all, U Escape has 4 rooms to choose from: River Quay Casino, Szechuan Secret, The Atomic Bunker and Room 13.

We were told the River Quay Casino is the most family friendly and has a more vibrant theme and Room 13 is the more challenging one. We decided to try out River Quay Casino as it might be more suitable for our young kids especially when we had the 4yo with us too.

I like that U Escape has a Game Master dedicated to guide us in our game. We were led into the Casino room and after a short briefing by the Game Master, he left us to explore the room on our own. The timer started to count down from 60 min.

Initially I thought that both Kel and I would have to break most codes since the kids may not be as witty as us, how wrong was I!! The kids were happy to explore around and dared to touch anything and anywhere, and they had better chances in finding clues than us. Usually, they get warned on itchy hands when their curiosity get the better of them in new places, but over here in this room, my first instruction to them is ”Go ahead and explore and feel around.”

Whenever we got stuck, we had 3 chances to shout for clues, in which the Game Master will type out the clue on the computer screen on the wall. Perhaps, seeing that we have 3 young kids and time was running out quick, he typed subtle clues whenever he saw that we spent too much time at a location. Each time his message comes, there will be a soft “Ding” and we would all look up at the screen for his message. Sometimes, we even talked to him, and he replied on the screen. I thought this was really, really helpful for us as there were really many codes to break and spending more than even 5 min at one part is considered too much time wasted.

There was a moment when my youngest was a little upset that he did not know what we were all busy searching around for that he started to cry. We had neglected him in our urgency to search for clues. So, I brought him to a corner and got him to unlock a door combination lock again and again by repeating the numbers to him to which he opened that lock numerous times. Thankfully for him, when the door was accidentally closed, no one could remember the lock combination anymore as we had advanced to many other locks, except me who had chanted the code, and this time the little one could open the door and beamed with pride that he helped “solve” a clue!

20160906_142926

I would say many of the clues are cleverly thought and arranged. We were amazed at some of the ingeniously hidden ones. When the time was up, we were still left with 2 locks. The Game Master appeared and revealed the final clues that we did not solve. We left the room feeling all hyped up on the fun. The older 2 kids could not stop talking about the experience and pestered us to go again. I feel that this is a really good place for family bonding as we need to work together and use our wit to break out of the room together. In fact, we loved it so much that I suggested going again 2 days later when we went for a playdate with Master 9’s classmates.

On the second occasion when we checked out the other Escape concept place, we were a little shocked that they do not have a Game Master like U Escape. Hence, we struggled in solving the clues within only 45 minutes, compared to U Escape’s 60 minutes. There were no clues typed out for us to read and whenever we got stuck, we pressed a bell for help and a staff member would appear to guide us on wherever we were at. As 45 minutes was really too fast for us kids and mummies, I find that this Escape room provider is more suited for experts who need minimal or no help. It is certainly not so easy for young kids to start with.

If you ask me, I will tell you that we will certainly be planning Escape Room fun for the kids again! And what’s more, for the start of the school holidays from now till 30 November, just quote

to the U Escape staff and you will be entitled to 15% discount!

Safari Boo is back again for the 3rd year and we are happy that we have the chance to preview it to bring you the highlights for the event + a GIVEAWAY at the end of this post! In fact, I am so excited to share about this fun event that I churn out this post on the very same night!

We had our first Safari Boo in 2014 when they hosted their first event which was a resounding success. This year’s theme is on Aliens and Monsters. Before you go dismiss this as a scary Halloween event, fret not, this is a super friendly Halloween trick or treat kids-friendly one that you will not want to miss.

What you can expect are many friendly Aliens and Monsters to give out TREATS to the little ones, crafts and games, and 2 new shows featuring ‘Monster Boo’ and ‘Mermaid Mania’. Let’s take a look at what we like!

TRICK OR TREAT AT PARTY CENTRAL

There are some activity booths here set up by the partners and sponsors where your kids can have a go at the games and win little gifts. This is outside River Safari. Look out for the signs.

You will still get to see these animals and fishes active in the night.

At the activity booths, solve the mysteries of real-life aliens—invasive animal species—which do not belong and why they should not be kept as illegal pets. These are educational booths that help the kids understand how and why we should protect animals. We take a stroller with us whenever we bring the kids to the Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Night Safari just in case any of the kids is tired and it is good for carrying bags too. I must say, our stroller went in with one bag of water bottles and came out with 5,6 bags of treats and prizes! So, if you are planning to go to Safari Boo, do come with strollers, or big bags to keep those treats which are spilling from the small treat bags!

Agapebabies Online Shopping x JuJuBe [+discount code]

With the festive season round the corner and many nieces and nephews’ birthdays coming up, I am starting to hit the online stores more frequently than ever!

If you do not already know, there are 2 big dates to remember for impossibly cheap deals in online shopping every year.

[et_pb_section admin_label=”section”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

With the festive season round the corner and many nieces and nephews’ birthdays coming up, I am starting to hit the online stores more frequently than ever!

If you do not already know, there are 2 big dates to remember for impossibly cheap deals in online shopping every year. This year, mark the dates of 11/11 and Black Friday on 25/11. There will be millions of transactions for many cheap deals!

But, I try to avoid these dates because I prefer to shop in peace than to get my adrenaline too high! I also worry that I may end up buying unnecessary things. After all, shopping is supposed to be an enjoyable experience so I prefer non-competitive sales.

With so many online stores around to do the 3 quotes thing, I still prefer those which have focused products. Although Taobao and Qoo10 are good places too, sometimes I hesitate to place order, as I am not so sure if I am getting the real thing or not. The more well-established ones, like Agapebabies, would put my heart at ease and it is a good choice for a few reasons:

1)      Agapebabies focus on mums and babes’ necessities – then I will not fall into the same habit of digressing to other products that caught my eyes and cause me to lose focus in shopping for what I really want.

2)      Authenticity – I can be sure that what I buy here are not pirated brands.

3)      Prices – I cannot speak for all products since I have not compared ALL, but some of the products that are on sale are really good buys at steep discount, and some are really cheaper than retail / other online stores.

4)      Delivery – They have various options on delivery and I like that! One-click self collection from 3 convenient locations – Newton, Sengkang and Old Airport Road. Smaller parcels enjoy 72 pick up locations. (Details here)

5)      Brands and product selection – They are partnering with increasingly more brands and I am happy to know they have JuJuBe and 3M! Right now, they carry over 250 brands and 6000 products in over 10 categories. As I am typing this, they had just launched the Sanrio JuJuBe limited edition and unisex-friendly collection Black Ops and Chome. Even dads can shop here!

6)      Friendly web interface – I like their revamped website and their mobile optimized site looks and feels like an app.

Cloud B Twilight Carz – Red Lightning

Prior to this review opportunity, my Master 4 had found this toy in Hamleys store and stuffed it in my hands just when I was checking out. Kids really know when to catch the best moment, don’t they? It could be easy to just pay for it since I was already making payment for another toy, but I decided to brave through his wails and reject him even though his birthday was round the corner. That was because I believed I could find the same toy cheaper elsewhere. As what a friend told me that I am maintaining 3 Ferraris (3 kids), I have to find ways to spend wisely. And I was happy to find out that this toy was sold at a lower price in Agapebabies!

This car casts really beautiful stars on the walls and ceiling. It has the option to change from red stars to blue stars. The headlights and tail-lights do light up too! Since then, it has been providing good entertainment for the kids at bed time.

I love this bag which I can use as a wristlet, use as a weekend travel light bag that I sling over my shoulders, or as a small pouch to throw inside an overnighter!

It is so versatile, can be machine-washed, and looking sleek at the same time. It can go with casual clothes and flip flops and look good with dress and heels!

Not only that, it is just of the right size, enough to put my long wallet, handphone, tissue, insect repellent and has an inner pocket for my keys, lipstick, hair clip and earphones!

Mizuno Ekiden 2016 – Great experience

20160716_183328

My kids asked me,”Why do you have to go for run events when you can run in the park by yourself?”

Even the hub could not comprehend why I have been waking up as early as 530am to attend run events on Sundays when I could have slept in or run on my own as the time suits.

I replied,”Kids, that’s because it is very fun to run with my friends. We motivate each other and it has become a healthy hobby for us.”

Approaching 40???

You know what? Maybe it is like a recent article that said it, as you approach 40, you begin to find new hobbies, exercise regimens, diet plans to keep minds and bodies in shape.
