Are you a fan of organic foods? Have you heard of Organic Bakery? I know organic foods exist, but I always suspect ALL ingredients that go into the process of making the end product are bound to have something that are not so organic. How wrong I was after visiting Bud of Joy, an Organic Bakery and Store selling pure organic foods. Over the weekends, I took my kids to have an educational tour of the bakery’s kitchen and we learnt all about preparation of the organic ingredients into baking organic cakes, 100% wholemeal organic bread, and organic cookies and pastries. Everything made in the bakery is 100% natural, pesticide-free with no preservatives nor artificial ingredients! Wow! I thought to myself: to put in so much effort to prepare the ingredients to make nutritious and delicious pastries, the baker must have a lot of passion for healthy food!
Bud of Joy Bakery believes in baking everything from scratch, even the colourings of the butter cream on cakes are organic!! The kids learnt that pea flowers (pesticide-free flowers from gardens) mixed with boiling water yield a bluish natural colour. When this mixture is poured into organic butter cream, it turns the cream into a beautiful turquoise colour! Pink colouring is made from organic grown beetroot. Chocolate colour is made from organic cocoa powder.
We started with a tour of the open kitchen of Bud of Joy Bakery. Nothing is hidden and all customers who walk into the bakery can have an open view of the kitchen and baker at work. The kids were introduced to a one minute slideshow on how most foods are made from pesticide grown plants and fruits. They were educated on the benefits of organic foods. After that, their favourite hands-on activity started. They decorated organic cupcakes with the natural colouring butter cream that was made earlier.
The kids were all happy with their own decorated cupcakes! They got to bring back to enjoy too!
After the cupcake decoration session, we were treated to a feast of the bakery’s products:
Organic cream cupcakes – Perfect as birthday pastries for little children! It contains organic butter sweetened with just a little organic raw sugar, so you do not need to worry about giving the kids a sugar high!
Muesli – Great for breakfast! Made from only organic nuts and oats, sweetened with organic raw honey, with no corn syrup nor refined white sugar. It is a quick, yummy and highly nutritious breakfast for growing children. Just add to milk or yogurt!
Orange Chiffon Cake – Soft and delicious. Made of only 50g of organic sugar!! Yet, it is not bland at all!
Cookies – We triedΒ chocolate chip cookies, cheese cookies and gingerbread too! All are delicious and since they do not have artificial ingredients, they sure taste very homely-made, and the best part is 0% sugar!!
Wholemeal bread – We understand from the baker, 100% wholemeal bread is almost unheard of, and yet he is able to make it 100% organic wholemeal! It is made from very fine grains and hence, you do not taste any coarse wholemeal grains at all in your mouth, good for my kids who hated the coarse grains.
Bud of Joy Bakery is a simple and down-to-earth bakery which sells what they believe in healthy eating. Β Their goods are baked from scratch and no pre-mixes are being used. They create healthy tasty products through artisan methods based on experimenting with wholesome ingredients.
All their products are as organic as can be, not just the flour or the sugar, even the oil, cheese, butter, milk, meat, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and other main ingredients are organic. If there are no counterparts found for key ingredients, they use the best ingredients available, eg, fresh garden-grown, pesticide-free pandan leaves, pesticide-free mushrooms, hormone-free and GMO-free eggs.
In fact, the owners are so proud of their organic bakery, they want all customers to read their ingredients when they buy their products! One example is this almond butter spread for your nutritious breakfast!!
While we were there, the customers who walked in live some distance from the bakery, as we were told by the owners. These customers know and trust the bakery for pure organic products and come from afar just to get these healthy foods. Bud of Joy offers island wide delivery too! And for products, like organic yogurt, beans, fenugreek powder, rice, chilli flakes, even noodles and baby lotion are sold in the shop! Some perishables like organic yogurt will need pre-orders and if you want any special organic products, just tell Bud of Joy and they will happily bring in for you!

We got to bring back some healthy products too! The kids love the gingerbread so much, they pestered me to buy!
Disclosure: This is a healthy food review where Bud of Joy invited us for a food tasting and kids’ hands-on activity. They thank us with a pack of muesli for this review. We bought the gingerbread and onion bread, and they are really delicious! I agreed to do a review because I believe in healthy eating and hope to share with my readers a good bakery to check out on!
I love how the kids got to tour the kitchen and decorate the cupcakes. This bakery sounds really healthy and fun π I would love to try out their products. So much fun stuff to do in Singapore!
The kitchen tour and hands-on activity are indeed the highlight for the children! For the adults, of course, it’s about making healthy choices for the kids’ sweet indulgence. Since Singapore is small, we parents got to find activities for our kids! π
Wow! That’s so cool! I love hands-on time like that, what a great way to teach about healthy eating! Looks like everyone had am awesome time!
All the kids love the decoration class and enjoy eating the pastries! I wished I was one of the kids too! π
Me too!! I want to decorate and eat a cupcake!!
Cupcakes look lovely!

That looks so fun! I can remember going on field trips like this when I was little. I loved them and they have obviously stuck with me. I cannot wait until Z is old enough to do these types of things. π
Yes me too! Such trips leave deep impression even though I was little. am sure in no time Z will be trying out lots of activities!
hi Christy, nice to meet your family last Sat, and I am glad the kids all enjoy their creative session π
cheers, Andy (SengkangBabies)
Hi Andy, it was a pleasure to meet you and your family too! I am sure your kids had fun as well! Look forward to reading your post!
Yum! I do think we need to reduce our pesticides and farm more sustainably. Good to see support for these techniques happening at the consumer level.
