After I published a post on my children’s school system, an SAP school which emphasizes greatly in Chinese traditions and values and everything Chinese, many parents wrote to me to ask how I manage to engage my kids’ interest in the Chinese language. How we celebrate our Chinese New Year

Oh, how I love Chinese New Year! It’s my favourite holiday other than Christmas. But the DAY which I love best is Chinese New Year’s eve! This is the busiest day mixed with hard work and happy reunion dinner.

Why hard work? In the days coming up to the Chinese New Year (CNY), we will be busy cleaning up the house. It’s a traditional practice to throw away old stuff and welcome the new things in the new year. A good excuse to give the house a brand new look with some new furnishings and re-decoration of the house. Starting Primary 1 and my laid back attitude towards grades

I remembered how XX started her first day of school 2 years ago. It seems like yesterday. And this year, it is YH’s turn to go to Primary 1. That reminds me of his first day in childcare when he was 3, and now 4 years later, he is a grown up boy, still a mummy’s boy in my eyes, starting formal school.

Just like how XX did, YH settled pretty well in his first days in primary school. I was surprised at his relaxed attitude on the first day. It wasn’t this way during the orientation organized by the school. He clung on to me and was not too keen in meeting new friends then. That got me a little worried. I have never sent my kids to academic enrichment classes before. Getting kids to do morning routine without nagging [+ Free Printables!]

Every weekend morning, I find myself nagging at a few things to my kids. “Brush your teeth!“, “Have you made your bed?“, “Have you eaten breakfast?“, “Your PJs are still lying around on the sofa/bed/floor!” As I leave for work early in the morning on weekdays, I do not have the chance to monitor these daily morning routines and by the time I got back home in the evening, I saw PJs strewned around, messy beds, and learnt that the younger one did not brush his teeth in the morning.
