Doctor for a day @ Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital

Doctor for a day was back again recently! You can imagine my anxiety and fast fingers to register both my elder kids for the event before the time slot keeps changing to “sold out” within seconds! This event has been a highly sought after kids fun event since 2012.

What exactly is this and why is it so popular?

It is a day for children age 5-10 to encounter what goes on for doctors in a day in a REAL Hospital setting! Just reading on the program line up will get parents like me to register without much thought because we know our kids will enjoy themselves very much!

There are 6 stations for these little “doctors” to attend to.

1st station: The Doctor’s Room – where the kids learn about some basics of hygiene in the hospital. They learn about the 7 steps of handwashing, why the need to wear a mask and shower cap. Continue reading “Doctor for a day @ Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital”

Remote Control Parenting {+ Timetable printables}

When my kids were young, I never imagine I would call home from work and check on whether my kids have done this or that or not do this or that. I saw one of my friends years back doing such remote control parenting and I secretly tell myself that perhaps I need not control my children this way.

Reality kicks in. Fast forward to 5 years later.

I make a pact with myself. No deliberate calls back home to check on whether they have done their homework, play their piano, stop watching TV, etc. The last thing I want is to have them hate receiving my calls from work. However, at times, I do call home to relay some messages to them like remember to bring the art file to school or let them know that I will be home late that night. Then before I put down the phone, I cannot resist but blurt out,”Did you play the piano today? How many hours of TV have you watched already? Go and study for your test tomorrow.” Continue reading “Remote Control Parenting {+ Timetable printables}”

7 most likely sins of Harassed parents

If saving time by being efficient in everything you do as a mum (or even dad) is your new year resolution, this book is for you.
How to be an Amazing Mum When You Just Don’t have the Time” by Tanith Carey is just what I need now when I JUST DON’T HAVE THE TIME for EVERYTHING.

How to be an Amazing Mum if You Just Don’t Have the Time by Tanith Carey

I chanced upon this book in the community library. In this book, there are many good tips in saving time from how to handle your children, leave the house on time, to how to put on make up in minimal time and yet look good!

One of the best advice the author gave and I feel I must share to all parents feeling the same way, was how she shared the 7 most likely sins of Harassed Parents. These sins resonate so well with me, I had better remember not to fall into these traps. (Sentences in Italics are direct extractions from the book)

Hey, I am surely guilty of this one. Continue reading “7 most likely sins of Harassed parents”

Cafe Melba – a great place for mums gathering while kids play

Happy 2015!

We found a great gathering place to start a brand new year!

When my Secondary school friend watsapp the 4 of us on where would be a good place for a long overdue meet up with kids tag along, my first thoughts went to Cool de Sac, Rochester Playhouse, and Food for Thought. However, I had brought the kids to these places several times and would love to try out a new place, well recommended by some bloggers, called Cafe Melba. And so we went to Cafe Melba on the first morning of 2015 and upon setting foot in this cafe, this quickly become a top mums gathering place on my kids-friendly restaurant list.

Cafe Melba

Cafe Melba is tucked inside Goodman Arts Centre on Goodman Road among many rich and awesomely huge bungalows. We took a wrong turn and were pleasantly surprised to see many glamorous houses on Wilkinson Road! I never knew, beside Bukit Timah, there is also another rich man’s lane in the eastern side of Singapore. Continue reading “Cafe Melba – a great place for mums gathering while kids play”

We were invited to Canon Family Blogger Photo Shoot Out to have a day of fun at Sentosa and to try out Canon cameras. If anyone would have remembered, last Saturday was those days when you wished you had a beautiful sky with enough sunshine to take good pictures while having a good time, but of all days, that was the only day it rained non-stop for the few hours that we were supposed to be having fun. Still, we enjoyed ourselves more than we could imagine despite the rain. Nothing’s going to stop us from having a great time at The State of Fun! Continue reading “Canon Camera & The State of Fun!”
