The 5 Things I need to enjoy the important things in life

You can call it resolutions, but I prefer calling it my To-Do-List.

Resolutions seem harder to follow through the year. To-Do-List sounds more like a grocery list of things you must buy, in this case MUST DO.

This year I am getting closer to half of my lifetime (Ha! What’s the average man’s life span these days?), no, not that old, but old enough to look back to my younger days and reflect. Then I realize that I have been way too busy to enjoy the finer details in life. Not finer things in life. But finer details. That’s a difference. Finer details like my children’s childlike look when they talk, when they eat, when they are focusing on an activity. Finer details like appreciating how they think and their views on a topic. Finer details of how they move their bodies when they run, jump and somersault.

It is easy to forget how to enjoy life when you are at the peak of motherhood and career. Not that I am after the career ladder aggressively, but it happens that my recent career switch coincides with the busiest motherhood years.

I find that when one gets older, especially when I become a mum, I treasure my parents more than I ever had. So, my parents are getting older, and my kids are growing up fast, I am at the peak of womanhood and need to maintain my attractiveness and attention to my husband, I need some changes in my life to be able to grab hold of all these things that matter to me most. So, unlike previous years when I tried to make new year resolutions, I think I need a real focus to ensure I do not neglect the most important things in life.

Here are the 5 things I will do to enjoy the IMPORTANT things in life.

I need to….
S.L.O.W….D.O.W.N
I am deliberately walking slower these days. I even have to force myself to speak slower. I need to remind myself to slow down my breathing at times. I even suspect sometimes I forget to breathe! To some people, slowing down is easy to achieve, but for an impatient person like me, it is an uphill task. That brings me to yearn for a less hurried life. And my goal is lesser hurrying around my children. Continue reading “The 5 Things I need to enjoy the important things in life”

The ABCDEs of Parenting and Photography Tips by Bob Lee

Bob Lee

Over the weekends, I was honoured to be invited by Canon Singapore to learn photography tips from Bob Lee 李欣赏. No, I am not obliged to blog about this. But, I want to! Because I was so touched by how real Bob is, and how he chooses to quit his job to bring his son (who is autistic) everywhere to the park to let him fluorish on his own with nature, the thought of this Continue reading “The ABCDEs of Parenting and Photography Tips by Bob Lee”

A simple gift for Teacher’s Day

This friday is Teacher’s Day.  As usual, we would be busy preparing for Teacher’s Day gifts for my kids’ teachers.  For most of the years, I would go with my kids to choose a reasonable budgeted gift for each of the teachers they want to show appreciation to.  But this year, I decided to make some simple gifts, mainly inspired by Simply Mommie‘s gift ideas. I am thankful for…

I am thankful quotes

This quote caught my attention and had me paused in my tracks to digest each and every sentence.

These quotes are such mundane things in life that often are taken for granted and easily lamented upon.  Earlier, I have written 2 posts that require much reflection and appreciation of my life.  The first is “It’s the simple things that count” where I paused for a moment to reflect on what I have now at this point of my life and really find much to be contented with. The second post is “Reminders to myself as a wife and mummy” which reminded me to do checks on myself on my attitude towards my hubby and children. I find such self-checks extremely important and meaningful to me as I tend to get blinded with the busy schedule everyday.  It’s so easy to forget what you already have.

So, here it is, these quotes lead me to appreciate being able to work,  being able to hear, walk, talk, having a lovely home and a lovely family, and being alive among many other things that I may conveniently complain about and take for granted.

Have you ever paused in the moment to reflect what you have right now? You may find that you have so many things to be thankful for.

Through the eyes of my little ones

I read somewhere that to look at the good points of a person, try looking for everything that is green in colour around you.  You would probably find many things that are green now that you focus only on this colour.  Same goes for choosing to look at the fine points of a person.  Through the eyes of the little kids, they can only see the fine points in their parents and no one on earth comes close to their Papa and Mummy.

  1. My Mummy is PERFECT, never mind that she can’t drive and can’t sing very well, to me, she is flawless.
  2. My Mummy is BEAUTIFUL, never mind that she digs her nose and is getting fatter.
  3. My Mummy will always hug me no matter how mischievous I am.
  4. I will never hold grudges against my Mummy, no matter how she punishes me for misbehaving.
  5. Even though she is angry with me at times, I still want her to kiss me goodnight.  I want her to accompany me to sleep every night.
  6. I love to help my Mummy in whatever she does.  “Mummy, what else is there for me to do for you?”
  7. My Mummy knows everything under the sun.  I love to ask her questions.
  8. Even though my Mummy is scared of cockroaches, lizards, and all kinds of reptiles, I will protect her no matter what.
  9. My Mummy is my best friend.  I love to tell her what happened in school everyday.  I love telling her secrets.
  10. I will continue to hug my Mummy and kiss my Mummy even when I grow old.
I love you forever, Mummy…
  1. My Papa is PERFECT, never mind that he can’t play the piano, to me, he is flawless.
  2. My Papa is HANDSOME, never mind that he farts in the room and he is always wearing the same shirt.
  3. I know that my Papa will not be angry with me 5 min after I misbehave.
  4. My Papa is a strong man!  He can carry me to sit on his shoulders to watch lion dance for a long time.
  5. My Papa knows everything about animals, pre-historic animals, insects, plants, history, geography, and everything on earth.  He is a walking encyclopedia!
  6. My Papa allows me to touch insects and teaches me their body parts.
  7. My Papa is a great cook!  He cooks the best maggie mee on earth.
  8. My Papa is never afraid of all kinds of insects and animals.  I bet he is not scared of dinosaurs too!  He is awesome!
  9. I love my Papa to make sharp turns when he drives and push us at high speed sitting in a trolley inside the supermarket.  We love thrills!
  10. Whenever I need a kiss and a hug, my Papa will readily kiss and hug me.
I love you forever, Papa…

and we love you forever too, XX and YH…

Through the eyes of my dear XX and YH, I saw the above love messages about me and Kel.

In their eyes, we are both PERFECT… and
in our eyes, they are both PERFECT
